This afternoon a Sloan-Hendrix School District student reported to the school resource officer that another student brought a gun to school. The school resource officer immediately went into the student’s classroom and searched the student’s bag. A handgun was discovered and confiscated without incident. Law enforcement was notified about the incident. The student who brought the weapon to school was removed from campus by authorities and will be disciplined under the District’s student handbook policies. The District applauds the student who came forward so that the situation could be immediately investigated. Please take this opportunity to remind your students of the importance of  “when you see something, say something.”

Sloan-Hendrix Schools will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, February 8, for on-site instruction at the regular scheduled time.  Limited bus service will be provided due to some areas still having iced covered roads.  The bus driven by Mr. Dennis Lester will not run county roads 210, 218, and 220 tomorrow.  He will be picking up students who live in these areas at the Mt. Vernon Church at 7:00 tomorrow morning.  Mr. Randy Gholson will not be running Old Union Rd. and Old Jackson Rd. tomorrow.  All other routes will run at the drivers discretion in areas that remain iced covered.    If you live in an area where buses are not running tomorrow and you cannot get your child safely to school, please contact the office in your child's building.

In response to updated guidance that was recently announced by Governor Asa Hutchinson, the Sloan-Hendrix School District will no longer require quarantines for students who have been exposed to a positive case of Covid-19 and do not have symptoms. Protocols for positive cases of Covid-19 remain the same - if your student tests positive, they will be required to stay home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms, and will be required to wear a mask on days 6 - 10 in order to return to school. Please continue to notify Sloan-Hendrix School District Point of Contact Mr. Ligie Waddell if your child tests positive for Covid-19. Thank you for your patience throughout the pandemic and your continued support of the Sloan-Hendrix School District.

The Sloan-Hendrix School District will be closed for onsite learning Thursday, January 13, and Friday, January 14, due to increased employee and student absences. AMI Days will be used for both days. All after school and extracurricular activities are also canceled. We have experienced an increase in Covid cases this week and are also seeing an increase in typical sickness which is common for this time of year. This combination has led to a high percentage of absences throughout the district. At this time we plan to be back in session on Monday, January 17. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
